8 Ahrefs Alternatives, and the Annual Bill Ahrefs Does Not Print (2026)

Ahrefs owns the best backlink index in the business, and if link research is your job, most of this page will not talk you out of paying for it. But Ahrefs has a pricing habit that deserves more attention than it gets, and it decided the shape of this comparison. The pricing page advertises “save up to 17%” for paying annually, then prints no annual price for any tier. Not for Lite, not for Standard, not for Advanced. We compared nine platforms for this article, and Ahrefs was the only one advertising an annual discount while giving you no way to work out what a year on annual billing actually costs.

That means every annual Ahrefs figure you have ever read in a roundup was either derived by the author or invented by them. Ours are neither: we quote Ahrefs month-to-month only, and we keep a dated Ahrefs price history so you can see what the page said and when. Every other figure below was read from the vendor’s own pricing page on the date stated, most on 4 or 6 September 2026.

Quick comparison

The bill you cannot compute

Put the annual-price column above next to any Ahrefs invoice conversation and the pattern is hard to unsee. Semrush prints $117.33 a month billed annually. SE Ranking prints $103.20. Moz prints $79. Majestic prints $499.99 a year. Mangools prints $452.40. SpyFu prints $33 a month. Serpstat at least prints the dollar saving, from which the price falls out with one subtraction. Ahrefs prints a percentage with a ceiling on it, and nothing else.

Why it matters is not the seventeen percent. It is that a price you cannot compute is a price you cannot compare, and comparison is exactly what a buyer on a $129-to-$249 decision is trying to do. It also means the annual Ahrefs prices circulating in third-party roundups have no source on the page they claim to describe. When we checked our own archive we found the same rot in reverse. $99 a month was Ahrefs Lite’s price for years, it appears nowhere on today’s page, and it still shows up in comparison articles as if it were current. Two of those articles were ours, corrected in August 2026.

So the honest three-year arithmetic on this page uses month-to-month rates for Ahrefs and annual rates for everyone who publishes them. Three years of Ahrefs Lite at $129 is $4,644. Three years of Semrush SEO billed annually is $4,223.88, SE Ranking Core is $3,715.20, Moz Standard is $2,844, and Majestic Lite is $1,499.97. If Ahrefs would like the fairer number used, printing it would take one line of HTML.

The alternatives

Eight tools, each introduced by the job it does better than Ahrefs, with the catches underneath.

1. Semrush, the like-for-like giant

Semrush SEO is $139 a month, or $117.33 billed annually as $1,407.96. Starter is $199, Pro+ $299, Advanced $549. The entry plan tracks 500 keywords daily across 5 websites, and extra seats start at $45 a month. Our Semrush price history and Semrush alternatives pages cover it from both directions.

What it does better than Ahrefs. Everything that is not links: advertising research, content tools, social, AI-prompt tracking from the Starter tier. And it prints its annual prices.

The downsides. The backlink index is the second-best on this page, which is precisely the thing an Ahrefs defector cares about. The keyword allowance at entry is also small for the money, at 27.8 cents per tracked keyword.

2. SE Ranking, the value defector’s choice

SE Ranking Core is $129 a month, or $103.20 billed annually as $1,238.40, for 2,000 daily tracked keywords, 10 projects and a 250,000-page audit allowance. Growth is $279. Details in our SE Ranking review and price history.

What it does better. Price for the platform shape. Same $129 as Ahrefs Lite buys 2,000 tracked keywords against 750, plus an audit allowance and included API credits.

The downsides. The backlink index is serviceable for auditing your own profile and shallow for prospecting into a competitor’s. If you leave Ahrefs over price and your work is link-led, you will feel the difference inside a month.

3. Moz Pro, the quiet AI-search play

Moz Standard is $99 a month, or $79 billed yearly, with 300 tracked keywords a month, 3 sites, one seat, and an AI-visibility dashboard with 50 tracked prompts across GPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Perplexity. Medium is $179, or $143. Read in a browser on 6 September 2026, with USD printed next to the figures.

What it does better. AI-answer tracking bundled at entry, and a links database that remains one of the credible ones. The annual pricing is printed plainly.

The downsides. The smallest keyword allowance on this page, metered monthly rather than daily. Moz also refuses ordinary automated reads of its site, which is why stale Moz prices circulate so widely elsewhere.

4. Majestic, if you want the index without the platform

Majestic Lite is $49.99 a month, or $499.99 a year, for 1 million analysis units. Pro is $99.99, or $999.99 a year, for 20 million. The API plan is $399.99 a month. Prices exclude VAT, and Lite and Pro carry a 7-day money-back guarantee. Read on 6 September 2026.

What it does better. It sells the one thing Ahrefs defectors actually miss, a serious dedicated link index with its own metrics, at well under half of Ahrefs Lite’s price. Trust Flow and Citation Flow are still the currency of a lot of link-selling conversations.

The downsides. There is no rank tracker, no keyword research, no audits. Majestic replaces one Ahrefs tab, and its interface has stayed proudly unfashionable for a decade. You would pair it with a cheap tracker, not run it alone.

5. Mangools, the budget research suite

Mangools Basic is $37.70 a month billed annually as $452.40, Premium $52.70, Agency $97.70, with month-to-month at $61, $81 and $141. LinkMiner, its backlink tool, meters rows rather than offering an open index: 100,000 backlink rows a month on Basic up to 1.2 million on Agency. Our Mangools price history has the dated readings.

What it does better. Cost. A year of Mangools is about three and a half months of Ahrefs Lite, and for keyword research plus casual link checks it covers most blogger needs.

The downsides. The link data is licensed depth, not Ahrefs depth, weekly tracking on the lower tiers, and no API on Basic.

6. Serpstat, the cheapest full platform

Serpstat Individual is $50 a month, with a printed saving of $228 for annual billing, which works back to $31 a month. That number is derived, not printed, and we flag it as such. Team is $100, Agency $410. Backlink analysis is included on every plan. Read on 6 September 2026.

What it does better. Entry price for the whole platform shape, and the annual maths is at least recoverable from the page, which clears a bar Ahrefs currently does not.

The downsides. Its metering unit is keyword position checks rather than tracked keywords, its databases trail the leaders, and white label is confined to the $410 tier.

7. SpyFu, for competitor archaeology

SpyFu Basic is $39 a month, or $33 billed annually, and Professional is $79, or $58. A first-month promotion was running when we read the page on 6 September 2026; we quote list.

What it does better. Historical SERP and ad-spend data per competitor domain, going back years, at a price Ahrefs does not compete at.

The downsides. The backlink data is the thinnest of the paid tools here, coverage outside the US and UK is weak, and it will not audit or track at platform depth.

8. Ubersuggest, the cheap seat with a lifetime door

Ubersuggest Individual is $29 a month in the United States, Business $49, Enterprise $99, and a lifetime purchase option exists behind a toggle whose figures we could not read. Its own comparison table prints its range as US$29 to US$99.

What it does better. Price, simplicity, and the option to stop renting.

The downsides. The link index is basic. There is also a currency catch we have now logged twice: our UK browser was shown the same digits in pounds, £29, £49 and £99, for the tiers the page itself prices at US$29 to US$99. That is roughly a third more for the identical product, disclosed nowhere on the page. Details in our Semrush alternatives piece, where the same behaviour appears.

Which Ahrefs alternative should you choose?

You are leaving over price but links are still the job. Majestic Lite at $49.99, plus Wincher or another cheap tracker. You keep a real index at $49.99 against $129, and even with a cheap tracker on top the total stays below Ahrefs Lite. Our SE Ranking alternatives page prices the tracker half of that pairing.

You want one platform for everything. SE Ranking Core if value decides it, Semrush SEO if you also run paid and social. Both print their annual prices, both are cheaper over three years than month-to-month Ahrefs Lite.

You are repositioning for AI search. Moz Standard at $99, for the prompt tracking at entry.

You just need something, cheaply. Serpstat at $50, Mangools at $452.40 a year, or Ubersuggest at $29 if you are in the US. UK readers, check the currency paragraph first.

Nothing actually replaces the index. Then stay, buy the smallest tier that fits, and put a reminder in your calendar to re-check what the page will not tell you: what a year costs. We will keep reading it for you either way.

What we could not verify

Ahrefs’ annual prices, which is the point of this article: the page advertises up to 17 percent off and prints no resulting figure, so no annual Ahrefs number appears here. Ubersuggest’s lifetime pricing sits behind a toggle our reads could not operate, so we report its existence only. Serpstat’s annual rate is derived from its printed saving and marked as derived where used. A note on pricing dates

Every figure on this page was read from the vendor’s own pricing page on the date stated beside it, most on 4 or 6 September 2026, in the currency the vendor displayed. Stale Ahrefs prices are a special hazard: the $99 Lite price died years ago and still circulates, and we found it in our own archive before we found it in anyone else’s.
