Blogging Tool Cost Index 2026: What 30 Tools Actually Cost

Blogging tool cost index 2026

What 30 mainstream blogging tools actually cost, read from each vendor’s own pricing page on one day, with the billing term the advertised price quietly requires.

All 30 prices verified 3 September 2026

The short answer

Entry plans across these 30 tools run from 3 cents a search at the bottom to $139 a month at the top. The median amount you hand over on day one is $74. Buying the entry tier of all 30 on the same afternoon costs $3,754.02. Most of that gap comes from one habit: 9 of the 30 advertise a monthly price that cannot be bought by the month.

We call that an unbuyable month. Those nine tools advertise $190.47 a month between them. To start using all nine you pay $2,490.04 today, 13 times the number on the pages. Hostinger is the extreme case: $2.99 a month on the page, $143.52 at the checkout, because the rate requires a 48-month term.

The index

Every price below was read on 3 September 2026 from the vendor’s live pricing page over a United States connection, so every figure is US dollars. Sort by day-one cost to see how little the advertised monthly number tells you. Tool names link to our own reviews where we have one; the source column links to the page the price came from.

The unbuyable month

A monthly price is a promise about a month. On 9 of these 30 pages it is a division sum instead. The vendor takes an annual or multi-year total, divides it by the number of months, prints the answer with a slash and the word month beside it, and sells you the whole term.

ToolAdvertisedSmallest purchasePaid on day oneMultiple
Hostinger$2.99 per month48 months up front$143.5248x

Mangools$37.70 per monthYear up front$452.4012x
MailerLite$10.80 per monthYear up front$129.6012x

The pattern rewards the boldest headline. Hostinger and Bluehost carry two of the three cheapest monthly figures in the whole index and two of the three largest day-one bills among the hosts. The discount is bought with a longer lock-in. SiteGround asks for the shortest term of the three shared hosts and, at $35.88, has the smallest opening bill, even though its renewal rate is the highest here at $17.99.

Ask this before you buy anything on this page. What is the smallest amount of this product I can purchase, and what will the card be charged today? Our Teaser Rate Test found that 267 of 369 price claims in page-one tool reviews never say what billing term the price requires. The vendors are clearer than the reviews, and still only in the small print.

What a dollar buys, by category

A price only means something next to what it buys. Two of these categories publish a unit you can divide by, so we divided.

SEO tools: a 5.1x spread on the same unit

Six of the eight SEO tools publish a ceiling on tracked keywords, which makes them directly comparable. Divide the monthly price by that ceiling and the ranking inverts. Keysearch has the cheapest headline price in the group and the second-dearest keyword.

Tool and planMonthly priceKeyword ceilingCost per keyword per month
SE Ranking Core$1292,0006.45 cents
Ahrefs Lite$12975017.20 cents
Mangools Basic$37.7020018.85 cents
Semrush SEO$13950027.80 cents
Keysearch Starter$248030.00 cents
Moz Pro Standard$9930033.00 cents

SE Ranking Core costs the same as Ahrefs Lite and tracks 2.7 times as many keywords. That single division is why we keep publishing it: nobody selling these tools has any reason to.

Email tools: the free tier is the whole decision

Kit gives away 10,000 subscribers, beehiiv 2,500, Mailchimp and MailerLite 250 each. For a blog under a thousand subscribers the choice is between $0 and about $33 a month for the same job, and the paid tiers only start to separate on automation and deliverability. Twenty of the 30 tools here have some free option. The ten that do not are concentrated in hosting, where there is a real server to pay for, and in the paid-content tools where the free tier would be the product.

How we did this

One person, one day, one rule: a price goes in the table only if it was read from the vendor’s own live pricing page. No figure here is carried over from an older article, a press release or another comparison table.

  • Prices were read on 3 September 2026 over a United States connection. Where a page renders its prices in JavaScript, we read the page as the browser draws it.
  • Where a vendor shows both a monthly and an annual figure, the advertised price is the one the page leads with, and the alternative is recorded in the notes.
  • Day-one cost is the smallest sum that unlocks the advertised rate: the monthly price where you can buy a month, the full term where you cannot.
  • Moz Pro could not be read over the United States connection at all, because the domain refuses that request. Its figures came from the rendered page, which prints the currency code beside the number, so the currency is certain.

The currency trap

Several vendors price by the visitor’s country, and they do not all convert. Read from a United Kingdom connection on the same day, ChatGPT Plus shows the same numeral with a pound sign in front of it. That is a real premium for a British buyer at any exchange rate. Grammarly and Elementor convert properly. Elementor’s dollar prices are readable only from the plain-text version of its pricing page, which the site publishes for AI agents. If you find one of these prices quoted anywhere without a stated currency, treat the figure as unverified.

Per-tool notes

ToolNote
AhrefsPage advertises "save up to 17%" on annual billing but publishes no annual price.
BluehostRenewal is 2.5x the advertised rate.
CanvaPrices itself in the visitor's local currency; the US figures are prefixed US$.
ChatGPT PlusPrice confirmed from OpenAI's own help centre; the pricing page renders prices only in JavaScript.
CloudwaysOne of the few that charges by the hour and prints USD next to every figure.
CopyscapePlus one cent per extra 100 words. The only per-use price in the index.
DiviThe only lifetime licence in the index; it pays for itself in year three.
Elementor ProUSD readable only from the plain-text version of the page; the HTML page prices by country.
GrammarlyPage prints "$12 USD / member / month, billed annually" and "$30 when billed monthly", so the headline rate needs a year up front.
HostingerThe longest commitment in the index: four years up front.
JasperWord counts have gone; the plan is sold per seat.
KeysearchThere is no /pricing page; the prices sit on the home page.
KitThe free tier goes to 10,000 subscribers, by far the most generous here.
MailchimpSixteen currencies are selectable from the page itself.
MailerLiteAdvertises 10% off for annual, and the two published prices agree.
MangoolsAdvertises about 35% off for annual; the two published totals work out at 38%.
Moz ProPage prints the currency code next to the figure, which most vendors do not.
Originality.aiCredits expire monthly on subscriptions.
SE Ranking25,000 API credits included in the plan.
SemrushThe old Pro tier at $149.95 no longer exists.
SiteGroundRenewal is 6.0x the advertised rate, the widest gap in the index.
Surfer SEOEvery tier on the page is quoted "per month, billed yearly".
UbersuggestUS range published as US$29 to US$99. The UK-served page shows the middle tier at the same numeral with a pound sign.
WP EngineFirst-year rate, new customers only; renewal pricing is not published.
WritesonicRepriced upward; older roundups still quote $16/mo.

Entry plans across these 30 tools run from 3 cents a search to $139 a month. The median day-one cost is $74, and buying the entry tier of all 30 at once costs $3,754.02, because 13 of the 30 want a year or more in advance.

Why is the price I pay higher than the monthly price advertised?
